Edward Ruscha Catalogue Raisonné of the Paintings: Volume One, 1958–1970

The Edward Ruscha Catalogue Raisonné of the Paintings is an ongoing project by Gagosian that to date comprises seven volumes. Each volume contains a comprehensive exhibition history, bibliography, and biographical chronology, as well as sketches, studies, and documentary photos. Volume one documents the 136 paintings, all oil on canvas, made by Ed Ruscha between 1958 and 1970. It includes the artist’s Pop-inflected single-word paintings, his “liquid word” paintings, and such well-known works as Large Trademark with Eight Spotlights; Standard Station, Amarillo, Texas; and Los Angeles County Museum on Fire. This volume was edited by Pat Poncy and features an essay by art historian Yve-Alain Bois and an appreciation by curator Walter Hopps.
