Volume one documents the 136 paintings, all oil on canvas, made by Ed Ruscha between 1958 and 1970. It includes the artist’s Pop-inflected single-word paintings, his “liquid word” paintings, and such well-known works as Large Trademark with Eight Spotlights; Standard Station, Amarillo, Texas; and Los Angeles County Museum on Fire. This volume was edited by Pat Poncy and features an essay by art historian Yve-Alain Bois and an appreciation by curator Walter Hopps.
