Thomas Houseago: Vision Paintings
Vision Paintings—the first book entirely dedicated to paintings by Thomas Houseago—reproduces more than 130 works made between 2020 and 2022, alongside pages from the artist’s journals and texts by Nick Cave, Flea, and L.D.C.
Houseago is best known as a sculptor who works with a combination of traditional and unconventional materials, crafting rough-hewn figures characterized by alternating planes and volumes that generate an interplay between two- and three-dimensional elements to give an impression of power and vulnerability. He began painting as a form of liberation and emotional restoration, exploring both the physical and psychological aspects of the practice. The resultant large-scale figurative and abstract works, which were produced outdoors in locations including Big Sur, Malibu, and Yosemite, focus on subjects such as nature, cosmic unity, and the cycle of life.
