Jadé Fadojutimi: Jesture
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Jadé Fadojutimi: Jesture at Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London. The hybrid nature of the exhibition’s title represents a response to the disruption of daily rhythms during lockdown by evoking a sense of the absurd. Dubbed “environments” by the artist, the vivid abstract compositions gathered in the exhibition are built up with layers of oil paint interrupted by more linear marks in oil pastel.
The book reproduces the eighteen works in the exhibition and features “From Life – Thoughts on the paintings of Jadé Fadojutimi,” an essay by critic and editor Jennifer Higgie, as well as a series of written reflections by the artist on the nature of love, life, imagination, and her creative process.
