Ed Ruscha: Paintings
This book was published on the occasion of Ed Ruscha: Paintings at Gagosian, Britannia Street, London. The exhibition featured five pairs of paintings—and one pair of Mixografia relief prints—structured as comparative studies, one image juxtaposed with another depiction of the same subject to produce an exercise in subject and form, perception and memory. The effects of the passage of time are at the core of these works, which reflect on natural and cultural transformation.
The catalogue reproduces the works in color on foldout pages along with a number of details and black-and-white photographs of the installation. An essay by art historian Briony Fer reflects on the possibility of renewal that the works extend: “Out of dereliction,” she writes, “there survives hope of regeneration.”
