This is the first edition of the very first illustrated book by the painter Balthazar Klossowski de Rola, better known to the world as Balthus. Published when he was only 13 years old, this book combines a series of 40 drawings by Balthus that illustrate a story about the loss and reunion of a boy and his cat. The introductory text is by the poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who championed this creative teen and made sure this book was published and seen by a wider audience.
