Repossi/Robert Mapplethorpe: “Americana Eagle” Pendant Necklace
As part of an ongoing collaboration with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, Paris jewelry house Repossi has created a collection of fine jewelry inspired by the artist’s own handmade jewelry and his early photography.
The eagle motif used in this necklace is a replica of the Great Seal, the principal national symbol of the United States, which can be found on the one-dollar bill, as well as US passports, stamps, and flags. The arrows and olive branch together symbolize that the United States has “a strong desire for peace, but will always be ready for war.” Gaia Repossi chose this symbol because of the prominence of American themes in Mapplethorpe’s photographs. The chain features white gold versions of the dice frequently found in Mapplethorpe’s jewelry designs.
The Gagosian Shop is the exclusive retail partner for sixteen pieces of the Repossi/Robert Mapplethorpe collection during the month of May 2022.
