Repossi/Robert Mapplethorpe: “Dagger” Triple Ring
As part of an ongoing collaboration with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation, Paris jewelry house Repossi has created a collection of fine jewelry inspired by the artist’s own handmade jewelry and his early photography.
This ring is based on an abstract version of a nail—one of the objects that Mapplethorpe used in his jewelry designs. Its shape also evokes a dagger, an item that featured in the artist’s staged photographs. Gaia Repossi has reworked the nail’s form according to her own aesthetic codes, exploring abstraction, asymmetry, the play between negative and positive space, and stacking.
